He did a written and oral presentation of individual research on the impacts of the Saharan Air Layer on Tropical Cyclones Florence (2018) and Dorian (2019). Miller took a course called Research Methods in Geoscience, which was taught by Dr. During graduate coursework at Mississippi State University, he studied dynamic meteorology, radar meteorology, weather forecasting, synoptic meteorology, and satellite meteorology. Miller continued to fuel his passion for meteorology by attending Mississippi State University’s prestigious broadcast meteorology program. This experience prepared him for the fast-paced news environment. Miller was heavily involved with Student Gamecock Television as a student news reporter and weather anchor.
He also conducted research on hurricanes and tropical climatology. During his time as an undergrad, he completed a study of air quality changes over time in South Carolina. While attending the University of South Carolina, Miller majored in Geography and minored in Environmental Studies. He entered college with a strong interest in weather and climate. During this event, he witnessed firsthand the damage that freezing rain can cause. Miller's passion for weather was sparked when a major ice storm hit the Upstate of South Carolina.
Miller has experience covering a variety of extreme weather events, from subzero temperatures and heavy snow to tornadoes and flooding. In addition, Miller served as a fill-in meteorologist for WQOW News 18 in Eau Claire, WI. Previously, he was a weekend meteorologist and reporter for WXOW News 19 in La Crosse, WI. Miller is currently a meteorologist at WJBF NewsChannel 6 in Augusta, GA.
